Workshops at Polyphony
I. National Editor Training Workshops (NET)
Polyphony is committed not only to providing editorial feedback on every submission, but is also devoted to training skilled editors. Our National Editor’s Training Workshops (NET) are a vital part of the training process. The workshops focus on the craft of literary editing, focusing on advanced skills in poetry, fiction and literary non-fiction. The goal of the NET workshop is to prepare rising 9th-12th grade students for leadership roles on the editorial staff of Polyphony or on his or her school literary magazine, and to prepare graduating seniors for leadership roles on university-based literary magazines. In 2017 we are offering three 2-Day Summer NET Workshops in our Chicago-area offices. We will also offer four international online NET Workshop (ioNet) during the summer months.
The 2-Day Summer NET Workshop
The 2-day NET workshop provides in-depth editorial training and mentoring by professional writers and editors. Participants in these summer NET Workshops will automatically serve as Second Readers on the National Editorial Staff of Polyphony for the new submission season which begins each July. The workshop fee is $575 and includes a welcome meal for editors and their families, readings by Chicago-based authors, and two intensive days of instruction. Out of town participants can be housed with local editors at no additional cost. Limited financial aid is available.

The international online NET Workshop (ioNET)
The ioNET Workshop provides the same content-rich editorial training to prospective and current editors as the Chicago-based NET Workshop, except that you can participate from the comfort of your home state or country. Students work on-line at their own pace during this weeklong course but will be expected to finish by the end of the workshop week. Scheduled group Skype meetings with Polyphony’s Managing Editor, Billy Lombardo and current Polyphony student editors will give participants the opportunity to interact directly with magazine staff and peers. Students who successfully complete ioNET will start editing as a Second Reader on our international editorial board.
The workshop fee is $250.
